I love luxury vinyl. Is it waterproof flooring?

Yes, luxury vinyl (LVF) is waterproof floors. That capability is just one of the many benefits of this beautiful product.

Is it the same as water-resistant?

No. When something is waterproof, the capability is built right into the product. It is made of waterproof materials–in this case, PVC vinyl–and there are no special coatings needed.

That’s unlike a water-resistant product. Unless wiped immediately, those floors will eventually soak, stain and ripple.

Waterproof durability

Waterproof floors are impervious and don't get damaged by water. LVF is also layered and five times thicker than the original products, making it more stable.

The wear layer, which plays a crucial role in durability, also helps to waterproof. It keeps spills from absorbing, sitting there waiting to be wiped off.

When you love a product but wish for more

Here's the good news. Have the LVF you love so much, but add extra moisture protection.

You have plenty of waterproof flooring options. One idea is to swap out the core for the WPC (wood plastic composite) or an SPC (stone plastic composite).

These cores are technologically advanced and won't peel or ripple ever. So it doesn't matter how much water there is or how long.

Another idea is to go with a newer version of luxury vinyl (LVF). Called waterproof floors, these are engineered to be thicker and more durable. In addition, they automatically come with WPC or SPC cores.

They have the same style as LVF. The floors are also low maintenance with an uncomplicated installation.
